About the artist

France-Lise McGurn

Atmospheric and immersive, Glasgow-based artist France-Lise Mcurn (born 1983) uses sparse and languid lines to construct her depictions of men and women lounging about, oftentimes undressed and grouped amongst each other. Sometimes represented in a euphoric state, other times more melancholy, McGurn uses movement and gesture to convey intimacy and sexuality within and between her figures. Painting directly on the walls, floors, and ceilings of exhibition spaces, she creates an experience where viewers are immersed within the flutter of limbs as the characters float about.

Since receiving her MA in Painting from London’s Royal College of Art, McGurn has exhibited throughout the UK, New York, Paris, and Berlin, among others. In 2019 she mounted a site-specific exhibition for Tate Britain in London. Her work is held in the public collections of institutions across Europe.
